Cate Blanchett’s ‘Carol’ to premiere at London Film Festival
Todd Haynes returns this fall with his first feature in eight years, Carol.
Carol is a movie that has already whipped up a storm at the Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the prestigious Palme d’Or and now it is to receive a Gala Screening in London. In recent years, perhaps picking up where he left off with “Far From Heaven“, Haynes has turned towards an exquisite delicacy of both form and emotion: subtle and intimate, but wonderfully expressive dramatic works that can leave you devastated. The event will take place at the British capital’s Odeon Leicester Square and will be attended by Haynes and stars Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. It is “cinema at its most intoxicating and immaculate”, she added. Rounding out the cast are Kyle Chandler as Carol’s husband, who’s suspicious of her relationship with Therese, and Jake Lacy as Therese’s clueless boyfriend.
Phyllis Nagy’s screenplay was adapted from Patricia Highsmith’s novel “The Price of Salt“. As an immediate connection sparks between them, the innocence of their first encounter dims and their connection deepens. The midcentury romance stars Cate Blanchett as Carol a married woman who risks everything when she embarks on a romance with the a younger shop clerk named Therese, played by Rooney Mara. She meets Carol (Blanchett), an alluring woman trapped in a loveless, convenient marriage. Carol is released nationwide on 27th November.
