Close shave for charity fundraiser
A Pill woman has raised more than £1,000 for a cancer charity by shaving off her hair.
An Isle of Wight Council officer is to shave off his hair to raise awareness and money for MacMillan Cancer Support under its “Brave the Shave” event.
Cecilia said: “The experience was nothing like I expected, but it has been fantastic, and I am totally humbled and grateful by people’s generosity to such a great cause”.
This features some superb prizes kindly donated by local people and business and includes a 40-inch TV, Samsung tablet, MK Dons merchandise and football tickets, dinner vouchers, gift cards and lots more.
“I was motivated to do this for a number of reasons including for Ryan, my uncle Brian, and I’ve had a few close shaves, so to speak, including heart and neck surgery and a severe traumatic brain injury”. I wanted to understand just one small part of what cancer patients go through.
Cecilia added: “I’m a shaver, but I’m not fearless”.
Steph Stevenson from HNB said: “We were not talking about a short haircut or a crop, this was a fully wet shaved and polished head and David also had his beard shaved at the same time so that all hair was completely removed”.
Organised and hosted by Xpress Relocation Ltd, a family-run company, the fun day will be raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Nurses and therapists help you through treatment, there are experts on the end of the phone, people to help with benefits advice, volunteers giving you a hand with the everyday things, campaigners improving cancer care – and fundraisers who make it all possible.
