Ban on Powdered Liquor Enacted in New York Hurts Manufacturer
The New York Daily News reported that Gov. Andrew Cuomo will sign legislation making N.Y. the 23rd state to ban the product in recent months.
The governor and supporters say the powdered alcohol would attract underage drinkers because it’s easier to hide than traditional liquor.
There are no studies as to the health effects this powdered substance that can be mixed with water or other liquids to obtain alcoholic beverages may have.
The legislation signed Friday includes penalties for minors caught possessing powdered alcohol.
New York joins more than 20 states that have banned the sale of the powdered alcohol.
Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Aministration, which would have been the only agency that could prohibit the product all over the Unites States, said that it could not find a basis for banning Palcohol sales in the open market.
The product, which has a pending patent identify of “Palcohol”, has had its labels accredited final yr by the US Treasury Department’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, which was the final hurdle earlier than it might be commercialized.

Powdered alcohol or “palcohol” has been stirring up cocktails, and controversy since the FDA approved the powdery substance in March. “Carrying liquid alcohol and mixers in bottles to make a margarita, for example, was totally impractical”.
“Powdered alcohol is a product with no legitimate reason for being”.
Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz also weighed in on the ban.
“Kids can stash Palcohol in their pocket when they leave the house for a party and their parents would never know the difference”, he said.
