Jaguars TE Thomas likely done for preseason with hand injury
The only exceptions are players with lingering injuries – that means Marqise Lee won’t play and the team may decide to give second round pick T.J. Yeldon a little bit more time to recover from a his hand injury sustained during the team’s scrimmage last Saturday.
Unfortunately, due to Thomas’ latest injury, the questions about his ability to stay healthy are only going to get louder.
The Jaguars are utilizing more two tight end sets and really trying to exploit mismatches in the secondary now that they have someone like Thomas in their stable of weapons. This, though, requires safeties to be both fast and athletic and the three who spent time with the first team on Friday-Shamarko Thomas, Will Allen and Alden Darby-didn’t seem up to the task. “I think once we kind of tie up one of those loose ends together we’ll be where we want to be”. In Pittsburgh’s second go-round against the Jacksonville Jaguars, fans got their first, somewhat, extended look at numerous players who will comprise the team’s starting 22.
“That’s him”, Bradley said.
After watching the game live, and on replay on NFL Network, I say (you guessed it) Blake Bortles, and (you wouldn’t have guessed it) defensive lineman Cap Capi. “Obviously, first game you’re gonna see some sloppiness, some missed tackles, penalties false starts and execution things”. Through two games he’s completed exactly half of his passes and is averaging a miserable 4.2 yards per attempt. Backup Chad Henne made it 17-8 with a 31-yard TD pass to Harbor in the second quarter.
Jacksonville would regain the lead with a 92-yard drive, led by quarterback Stephen Morris.
(At) Oakland 18, St. Louis 3: Derek Carr completed three passes to Oakland rookie receiver Amari Cooper on an opening field-goal drive and the Raiders won their exhibition opener under new coach Jack Del Rio.
After sitting through the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, OH watching Ben Roethlisberger, Le’Veon Bell, Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant, Markus Wheaton and Maurkice Pouncey all in street clothes, fans were finally given a chance to watch the starters in action Friday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and they didn’t disappoint. He can hit check downs, but when it comes to passes downfield his throws are often well off the mark.
“That’s the reason why we signed him because he had some rush skills so for him to get those (sacks) at the end of the game it was great to see that”, said Bradley. “We need to start fast like that”.
“We just got to tackle better”, Heyward said. “We have to keep getting everybody the ball and if they don’t get it, we won’t win football games”.
