Robot grabs worker, causing fatal injuries at Volkswagen plant in Germany
The robot gripped him and pressed up him against a metal plate, crushing his chest.
Volkswagen spokesman Heiko Hillwig said that the incident occurred due to human error, according to the Associated Press.
Those who argue against this thought, suggest that robots are not actually intelligent.
But this is nothing new.
Robots are slowly replacing humans to help create cars.
The victim was installing part of the robot inside the safety cage when he was struck. Williams’ family was later awarded $10 million in damages. The robot grabbed the man and threw him against a metal slab. His co-worker was standing outside of the cage and didn’t come in contact with the robot. Not a pretty way to go by any means. But according to the Financial Times, the worker was inside the safety cage when he was injured.
Volkswagen said the robot had not suffered a technical defect, the report said.
However, the state prosecutor’s office in Kassel has now confirmed it has begun an investigation into whether the robot had in fact been under human control when it crushed the man.
Robot-related fatalities are rare since there are laws protecting employees from danger in the workplace.
This is hardly a killer robot uprising. He stated that Artificial Intelligence could be the “biggest existential threat to humans” and compared it to “summoning the demon”.
So please, no more Terminator media frenzy.
