Michigan Lawmaker Caught In Scandal Will Not Resign
“They’re still goading me”.
Here’s what happened. Republican Representative Todd Courser reportedly thought a weird sex scandal would keep his real affair with Gamrat under wraps. In the statement he said he was being blackmailed and that’s why he wanted to send the email. They also said that it’s too early to jump to conclusions. She and State Representative Todd Courser, of Lapeer, are subjects of a House investigation into whether they misused public resources to hide their relationship and fired an aide who refused to help.
And it is in the email and the circumstances surrounding it that will provide the focus of the House’s investigation.
Gamrat denied pressuring any staffers to distribute the e-mail, and said she’s broken no laws.
On Saturday, Courser released a 1,900-word, scripture-laden confessional on his Facebook page, saying he’s “the poster boy for those who would say…” Many called for him to step down immediately, accusing him of hypocrisy for advocating for traditional marriage while apparently having an affair. He’s apologized but won’t resign, alleging blackmail.
“She believes that once the investigation is done that it’s going to probably not be as big of an issue as what everybody’s making it out to be”.
“It is mystifying to be in the middle of this hurricane and to be totally here and be present and feel the full fury of so much condemnation”, Courser wrote. It was unclear who actually sent the email.
As of press time, no known recall campaigns had yet been organized.
“That was pushed on me from many directions … and yet I felt no calling from God to move that way”, said Courser.
“It was not my finest moment”, he said.
I’m hopeful that they will not force their families, constituents, or fellow legislators to endure weeks, months, or longer of allowing this damaging distraction to continue. “I would have been submitting to authority of the establishment machine”, he stated.
Not surprisingly, Courser and Gamrat really didn’t want their affair revealed.
On Monday, Courser alleged that Cotter had his office bugged, an allegation the House Speaker described as “just ludicrous”.
Since their departure, Courser says his new staff members have found numerous projects never completed by Graham, Cline and Allard.
“Without his credibility, he needs to resign”.
“I’m skeptical either way, it seems muddled to me”, Dan Courser said. Almost 12 percent say she should not. Courser declined to answer questions and has not returned multiple phone calls and messages from The News since August 3.
And for the first time this day, she laughed. And today during a news conference, Gamrat admitted she’s helping the authorities get to the bottom of it.
