Egypt reopens Rafah crossing with Gaza
Palestinian police secure the area following an explosion that ripped through a house in the Al-Shabura refugee camp near the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah on August 6, 2015.
Gazans seeking medical care and students are among those expected to cross. The border crossing, Gaza’s only gateway to the outside world with no Israeli control, opened on Monday for four days.
Egypt has opened its border with the Gaza Strip for the first time in two months.
The repeated closures of the Rafah crossing have made life even more hard for Gaza’s roughly 1.9 million residents.
The border crossing has largely been shut since President Mohamed Morsi was toppled by the Egyptian army in 2013.
Rafah crossing has been closed for 200 days since the beginning of the year except for 15 days only.
The Egyptian authorities also announced last week that the Rafah crossing would be opened for a three-day period starting September 7 to allow Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to perform the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
CAIRO: Egyptian Authorities found Sunday the body of a young Palestinian man along the Egyptian border with Gaza, Palestinian news Agency Maan reported.
