Siri Saves Life of Man Pinned Under Truck
“I didn’t know if she could hear me or not, but I heard her say that help was just around the corner”. “So I got underneath there and located the noise”.
Siri on the Apple iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch lets you use your voice to send messages, make calls, set reminders, and much more.
A teenager in Murfreesboro, Tennessee received a second chance at life after being trapped and rendered immovable under a truck, thanks to no other than Siri, Apple’s smart personal digital assistant.
He has begun to give up hope when he suddenly heard the sound of Siri activating in his back pocket.
“Sometimes these crush injuries can be devastating and can kill you”, Miller said. After several tries, he was able to get the phone to call 911.
Sam Ray was working on his Dodge Dakota pickup when the jack he was using to lift the truck fell, pinning him underneath. “I thought, oh wow”, said Sam. “This is kind of a useful thing”. “But then I heard the screams for help”. Once firefighters were on the scene, they freed Ray and he was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, about 40 miles away.
“I told him to get out of there”, said Dusty Ray, pastor of nearby Heartland Baptist Church in this community of about 400 residents. Siri appears to understand various emergency-related commands, such as “call” “cops” “police” and “emergency services”.
“When I heard a woman talking from inside my pocket, I just started shouting”, he said.
Dusty Ray, Sam’s father, recalled getting a phone call from his son and telling him not to work under the auto when no one was at home.
In all, Ray spent 40 minutes under the vehicle and suffered a bruised kidney and three broken ribs as a result of being crushed. “I owe them that”.
