Samsung launches Galaxy Note5 and Galaxy S6 edge+
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ have been launched with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop onboard.
“The Note didn’t just succeed; it created a category”. On August 20, Samsung Pay will debut in the Korean market while the owners of Galaxy devices in the U.S. will be able to avail the service from September onwards.
Both devices are available in Samsung’s existing Black Sapphire, White Pearl (not shown) and Gold Platinum colors with the addition of a new Silver Titanium color option (shown left). I reached out to Samsung about the phones yesterday after the company’s announcement, and I still haven’t heard back.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is priced in the Philippines at P36,990, while the Galaxy S6 Edge+ will cost P39,990 for its 32GB and P44,990 for its 64GB versions.
The Galaxy Note 5 4G+ smartphone will be available in Singapore from tomorrow.
The S6 Edge+ also has fast-charging, which according to the company will charge in two hours and it offer wireless charging.
Samsung Pay is protected, as Samsung says it features Samsung KNOX, fingerprint verification and digital tokenization; so the payment can not be successful unless you swipe your finger on the scanner. Unfortunately for many Samsung fans, both large-screened smartphones also come with the same caveats that we saw with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.
It’s worth noting that Samsung hasn’t yet confirmed official prices for the smartphone, so this could change ahead of its release.
The firm also used the event in New York to launch Samsung Pay, its own take on the mobile payments market designed to compete with Apple Pay.
The Galaxy Note 5 boasts of the same 16MP OIS camera at the rear and a 5MP front facing shooter.
