Redskins addressing big void at tight end
The Redskins have signed free agent tight ends D.J. Williams and Ernst Brun, Jr.to contracts and placed tight ends Niles Paul and Logan Paulsen on injured reserve.
He is the second Redskins tight end to be ruled out for the season. But he did catch six touchdown passes as a junior with the Cyclones.
Hall was joined by teammates Chris Baker, Will Compton, Duke Ihenacho, DeSean Jackson and Andre Roberts in tweeting prayers, while former Redskins Adam Carriker and Graham Gano sent wishes for a speedy recovery. The 33-year-old tight end would undoubtedly be welcomed back by most fans, and would be an instant upgrade along the line in blocking situations. He’s now nursing a hamstring issue that caused him to miss the preseason opener, and although it’d be nice for him to see some live action, the Redskins would be wise to play him as little as possible until the regular season begins. “Just another obstacle, and I’ll get through it”.
Paul suffered a broken left ankle in Thursday’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns, and Paulsen is undergoing season-ending surgery for a turf toe injury. “Any team in the NFL, I could be their third tight end. I have no doubt”, he said.
With Paul now gone for the season, the Redskins will likely be in the market for an additional tight end. The Redskins now have three young tight ends on the roster with the opportunity to emerge as a reliable option.
Paul, 26, generally avoids playing out his personal life on social media, but he took to Twitter on Friday morning to express his gratitude. He’s an incredibly smart player; his knowledge of the game alone will help the team. “He’s a great player and a great leader”.
While bringing Cooley back into the fold might seem farfetched to some, I don’t think it’s completely unrealistic or impossible.
