Manchester City closing in on former Chelsea winger as Wolfsburg coach drops
The new deal was set to have gone through on Friday which is an increase from their £47-million bid on Monday.
The Premier League outfit are keen to lure the Belgium worldwide away from his current club and launched a £45 million offer for the 24-year-old earlier this month.
De Bruyne was outstanding last season in being named Germany’s player of the year, but he struggled to produce his best on Sunday and was booed before being taken off 15 minutes from time.
According to De Bruyne’s representative Paul De Koster: “There is no way we would do something like that”.
Allofs insists Wolfsburg are not in any rush to sell De Bruyne, with the club, who finished runners-up to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga last season and won the DFB Pokal, financially strong because of their ownership by Volkswagen.
Having already made the £49m acquisition of Raheem Sterling and £8m addition of Fabian Delph, City are believed to have made an opening offer of around £43m for the 23-year-old. “At this stage we have not received a call to say that any bid has been accepted and until we do, Kevin will stay where he is”. There is also the possibility that Eliaquim Mangala will be part of the deal, as Valencia are looking at the Frenchmen to replace the Argentine defender.
De Bruyne has told his adviser that he wants the move to City to happen but is reluctant to force the issue at the moment in the hope that the transfer can be brokered amicably.
“Everyone is talking about how well they are playing and what good players they have”.
