Aaron Harang: Harang serves up grand slam to Braun
The Brewers capped off a season sweep of the Phillies at Miller Park on Sunday with a 6-1 win, giving Milwaukee victories in all seven meetings between the two teams this year.
With a grand slam in the fifth inning of Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun tied Robin Yount for the franchise’s all-time home run record. Harang allowed six runs on seven hits over 4.2 innings on Sunday, his shortest outing of the year, including a grand slam.
Harang yielded a first-inning run after allowing a Jonathan Lucroy triple, but he was well in control for the next three innings.
Since he broke into the league, Braun has been etching a name for himself in franchise history.
“It’s definitely a special accomplishment and something to be proud of”, Braun said.
Their offense was kept in check by Brewers starter Taylor Jungmann who threw 6.1 scoreless innings and let up just three hits while walking two and striking out nine.
Philadelphia held a 2-0 lead when Milwaukee scored twice in the fifth with help from two Phillies errors.
Brewers: Milwaukee continues its six-game homestand on Monday against the Miami Marlins. Manager Craig Counsell said the fracture would heal without surgery.
The Phillies went 1 for 13 with runners in scoring position and squandered a solid start by Adam Morgan (3-4) by stranding 10 runners. Jungman dropped his ERA to 2.23 by fanning the side in the first inning with 11 pitches and the second inning with just 10 pitches. “As a starter you have to wait five days to get back out there, which is frustrating”. Their one run came on a solo homerun off the bat of third baseman Andres Blanco in the ninth inning. The Phillies then loaded the bases with two outs on singles by catcher Carlos Ruiz and pinch-hitter Jeff Francoeur and a walk to Darin Ruf. That is one RBI away from tying Del Ennis for second in Phillies historical past. In seven video games since coming back from ankle irritation, Utley is batting. Just why the Phillies send him out to the mound as part of their rotation is particularly puzzling based on his recent performances.
Sunday: Chase Utley sat out. 378 (14-for-37) in those situations for the season…. Braun, the NL Rookie of the Year in 2007 and NL MVP in 2011, has said he would like to remain in Milwaukee the rest of his career. Utley, who reportedly is drawing the most interest from San Francisco, the Chicago Cubs and the Los Angeles Angels, is 11-for-22 since returning from the disabled list.
