Skubick: Rep. Cindy Gamrat breaks her silence, says she won’t resign today
Meanwhile, Courser and Gamrat are awaiting the results of a House Business Office investigation into whether they broke House rules or violated state law by using staff resources to participate in the cover-up. The staffer also reported Courser’s orchestration of a fictional email sent to Republicans and reporters suggesting he had sex with a male prostitute to tamp down attention from his real relationship with Gamrat.
He stated that he will not be resigning, because he does not want to let this imaginary mafioso blackmailer win – and besides, he believes his message is correct, even if he is a “broken messenger”. In a 27 minute audio file posted to his campaign website, Courser asked for forgiveness from his and Gamrat’s family.
Granted, Courser’s email blast might seem to many like a very immature, and totally insane, way to avoid taking personal responsibility for his actions.
An apologetic Michigan lawmaker cried alongside her husband as she refused to give up her seat over an extramarital affair with a fellow state representative. The statement posted on Courser’s Facebook page is below.
“I would have expected him to come to at least one meeting”, he said. “For that I’m truly sorry”, said State Rep. Cindy Gamrat (r), Plainwell. The staffers and consultant said there is no truth to his allegations, and numerous legislators and party leaders have dismissed Courser as being paranoid.
A weird sex scandal involving Michigan lawmakers and their potential misuse of public resources in a cover-up plot possibly prompted by blackmail shows no signs of abating.
“I thought it would interesting in a fun sort of way to let people know how serious the situation is with Mr. Courser”, Eilersen said. She says not true.
On Monday, Courser released a rambling 27-minute audio recording and claimed the former aides for him and Gamrat were part of a “blackmail” ring coordinated by the “Lansing mafia” in the establishment wing of the Republican Party.
Various media sources claim that rumors about a supposed affair between Courser and Gamrat had been circulating through Lansing for months.
And despite calls for her resignation, Gamrat at least right now, has no plans to step down. It was the product of an huge amount of stress about his personal safety and that of his family combined with a lack of food and sleep.
It is absolutely not “essential for the cause of liberty”, as Rep. Courser asserts, that he remain in public office.
