BMW M4 GTS Concept arrives at Pebble Beach – previews production M4 GTS
Actual performance specifications weren’t announced, but expect those to come when BMW confirms that the M4 GTS will be heading to dealerships in the near future.
BMW couldn’t hold their excitement any longer and has decided to make a premature unveil of the M4 GTS through releasing its concept sketches.
In keeping with its track focused nature, BMW has provided the Concept M4 GTS with carbon fibre front splitter and rear wing, allowing the driver to adjust downforce accordingly.
Lightweight, forged and polished alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres can be found at each corner of the body – 20-inchers at the back and 19s at the front.
As the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R Concept is based around the “regular” Hommage Concept, it features all the same insane and eye-catching design elements. It previes the final production auto that’s due to go on sale next year, in limited numbers. Already a nod to the CSL road vehicle, a wood-like panel encircles the dashboard, but here displays the track layout and other data on its surface. The water is injected into the intake manifold as a fine spray. The M Division has taken the M4 and given it a heavy injection of steroids. The colder temperatures allow the boost pressure to be increased, injection timing made earlier and knocking is reduced. The water evaporates and begins to significantly cool the air intake by absorbing the heat. This means the turbochargers in the inline-6 cylinder engine can run more boost, while also lowering the stress on the mechanical components in the motor. The power of the concept track-road hybrid is still unknown, but it will surely be more than the standard 425hp of the regular M4 model.
No specifics have been revealed regarding the engine, but we’re guessing it features the same 3.0-litre straight-six turbo as the initial Hommage concept. BMW has also reworked the cooling system, adding two radiators to keep the temperature of the engine in check. We are big fans of the sleek organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) that are found in the rear tail-lamps, however.
BMW has rolled out a pair of striking concepts for this weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California; one brand-new, the other a sharp refresh of a recent showstopper.
