Samsung unveils Galaxy S6 Edge+, Note 5 phablets
On Thursday, Samsung officially took the wraps off of its new Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 edge+ devices at an event in New York.
Both the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus are similar except for a dual-edge display in the latter and an improved S Pen stylus on the other. And that’s what we accomplished, ‘ said Shoneel Kolhatkar, senior director of product marketing at Samsung Telecommunications America. Thankfully, it turns out the company is prepping a new version of Gear VR, though it’s unclear exactly what Samsung has planned.
“The launch of the Galaxy S6 Edge+ delivers on this promise”. Live Broadcast is available on both the Galaxy S6 edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5.
Samsung has announced that Samsung Pay, its mobile payment system, is about to roll out, but Australians might not want to hold their breath. Users who got to see the phone mostly describe it as blown-up Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
Yesterday as the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 was revealed, several listings of a 128GB (internal storage) edition of the device popped up on the company’s own pre-sales site. Samsung Pay works with most existing credit or debit card terminals, which means it is the only mobile payment service that works nearly everywhere you can swipe your card. Its 3,000mAh battery features a quick-charging capability that can also be enjoyed when charging the phone wirelessly.
To do that, however, it needs to convince a high number of buyers that the edge display and digital S-Pen – along with the apps to support those – are worth the premium, which could be a tough sell.
The Galaxy S6 edge+ 4G+ will go on sale in Singapore from August 22.
The moves are aimed at keeping the South Korean giant atop the global smartphone market and countering U.S. rival Apple, which has made gains with its large-screen iPhone 6 and 6-Plus and its tap-to-pay feature.
