Alabama QB Jake Coker out several days with injury, AL.com reports
Coker is the only one of the group to have thrown a pass in college.
Alabama head coach Nick Saban said senior QB Jacob Coker is dealing with a minor foot injury and will be kept out of practice. Coker is expected to make a full recovery in “several” days. However, none of those players have separated themselves enough to be named starter. “So I think that was a hard situation he was put in, and he handled it really well and continues to work really hard”. “They have to take the ball and run with it. We’ve seen that a couple times, and it’s a little bit like giddy-up, whoa”.
“I’m just waiting for somebody one day sort of breaking out and they have a couple of good days and sort of say, “OK, I’m ready to do this, ‘ ” Saban said”.
“And you’ve got to win the team”. “As bad as I’d like to make it happen, I can’t make it happen…”
“Somebody’s gotta make it happen”.
Coker was locked in the Tide’s quarterback competition with Alec Morris, David Cornwell, Cooper Bateman and Blake Barnett.
Coker was widely thought to have the leg up after spring practice, but has been in a five-way battle for the starting job during fall camp.
Alabama center Ryan Kelly said he wasn’t sure if Coker was injured during the team’s scrimmage on Saturday. The Crimson Tide opens the season September 5 against Wisconsin at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Saturday on Yahoo Sports.
