Emile Hirsch Is Going To Jail After Pleading Guilty To Assault
In addition to his jail time, he will have to pay $4750, and complete 50 hours of community service, and attend “aftercare” sessions.
The plea deal agreed on Monday means Hirsch managed to avoid the maximum jail sentence of five years. If he fails to do these things, he faces a year in jail.
When police confronted Hirsch, he said he didn’t remember the incident, but did say that the two were “mouthing off” and said, “She started kind of causing a ruckus and I sort of started getting intervening and this happened”.
A statement from Bernfield asking for a stricter punishment was read today in court. “I think she had a go at me and I probably defended myself”.
“If a violent attack in front of a roomful of witnesses can be labeled a misdemeanor and dismissed, what of women who are assaulted while alone in hallways or bathrooms, or behind the closed doors of their own homes?” Bernfeld said in a statement sent by Los Angeles attorney Don Etra.
US actor Emile Hirsch will spend 15 days in jail after admitting an assault on a female film executive.
Bernfeld was initially apprehensive about pursuing charges the night of the January 25 incident at Tao Nightclub in Park City due to the “sensitive nature” of her work and Hirsch’s high profile, reports showed. I don’t think it was much more than that to be honest….
An angry Bernfeld has expressed her dissatisfaction at the news of the plea deal, insisting she is still suffering from issues resulting from the violent attack. She has declined to comment previously about the incident.
The prosecutor acknowledged that he’s troubled he does not know what motivated Hirsch in the “shocking” attack.
He was at Sundance for the premiere of the drama Ten Thousand Saints, in which he appears alongside Ethan Hawke and Asa Butterfield.
As part of the deal, Hirsch was ordered not to drink alcohol or use drugs.
