Terry Francona to accompany John Farrell to first Chemotherapy session
In town through Wednesday for a three-game set against the Red Sox, the Indians manager will attend John Farrell’s first chemotherapy session with him on Tuesday, according to The Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham. With Francona managing the Indians, Farrell got the Red Sox skipper job in 2013. “I was just asking questions – the normal questions – and he mentioned that he was going to start (chemo) Tuesday”. He was a guy that brought me along in every way that he could and every area that he could because he knew that I was going to pay attention and watch some of the things he was doing in running his ball club. “I’ll go with you.’ I may not do anything but get in the way like normal, but being a friend, the only thing I know how to do is be a friend”.
Terry Francona sat at the podium in the Red Sox media room, somewhere he sat twice a day, every home game for eight seasons as manager of the Red Sox.
Lovullo played for Francona in 1999 with the Phillies, though he only appeared in 17 games. I was anxious about him because of the hernia and all of a sudden you get the unexpected news of something more serious. Ultimately as Tribe fans, I know that what we want to see is the Indians win a World Series, but I think there’s a lot to be said for rooting for good people, and Cleveland seems to have those in spades.
“We became pretty close”, Francona said. “That was amusing because that team had about five future managers, and I don’t think at the time any of us thought that was in our future”. “For a pitcher and a position player, that’s not usually how it usually works”. We stayed friends and obviously stayed in contact. Doctors have told him his condition is “highly curable,” and he will miss the rest of the season in order to undergo treatment. It’s always easy because he’s one of my best friends.
