But of course, Neil Young gave guitar lessons to Meryl Streep
Meryl Streep got to learn how to rock from the best during her work on Ricki and The Flash, jamming out with Neil Young at the Jacob Burns Film Center.
When living legends Neil Young and Meryl Streep come together, awesomeness ensues. Now a video capturing their impromptu session at the Jacob Burns Film Center has landed online, AceShowbiz reports.
The guitar aficionado’s first piece of advice to Streep: turn on the amps knobs to their maximum setting-for prime sound and for realism. “I saw her band playing at this bar on the shore and I said to my husband, ‘This is a movie.’ Because as a screenwriter, you’re always looking for movies all around you”.
“Ricki and the Flash” brings the drama, the comedy and, of course, the music.
Being the polite Canadian that he is, Young probably didn’t charge Streep for the lesson, but did receive some incomparable praise – a worshipful bow. Demme has joined forces with Young for three concert films – 2006’s Heart of Gold, 2009’s Trunk Show and 2012’s Journeys.
In the film, which hits theaters on August 7th, Streep is a grocery store cashier by day, aspiring rock star by night.
Ricki is really Linda Brummel, a suburban housewife whose dreams of rock stardom ripped her away from her family decades ago, leaving still-raw wounds. The film soundtrack, however, features Streep’s son, Henry Wolfe, singing a cover of On the Beach’s “For the Turnstiles“.
