CC Sabathia Leaves Toronto Night Club as Street Fight Breaks Out

There’s no word on what started the melee, but TMZ reports that hecklers were yelling “Go Blue Jays” as Sabathia was being escorted from the club to a taxi out front.

Sabathia said it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary said to him, but said some were personal.

Manager Joe Girardi said AL East-leading New York had already planned to alter their rotation before he became aware of the incident involving Sabathia and that it had “nothing” to do with the switch.

“Just a bad decision on my part”, Sabathia said. Sabathia was eventually convinced to get into a cab and away from the scene by some much smaller men.

Sabathia did not remember the comments that led to his reaction, but he hinted the remarks were about his on-field performance and ability. 500 (59-58) but stand only 1 1/2 games out of the second wild-card spot and will have a chance to play their way in or out of the race on a 10-game road trip that goes through New York, Baltimore and Tampa Bay. Sabathia was scratched from his start Monday but said the fight has nothing to do with it, that the team had decided two days ago to give the rotation an extra day of rest.

“I think you have to be prepared that at times something could happen and you have to deal with it, but you try to remind your players all the time, everything is fair game”, Girardi said. “Sometimes things are based on need”, Girardi said.
