USC quarterback Ricky Town will transfer
Town was the No. 6 pro-style quarterback in 247Sports’ recruiting rankings.
USC will be over ok at quarterback without the need for Town, especially those that would be able to symbol 2017’s No. 12 overall sponsor and No. one- dual-threat quarterback Tate Martell.
In March, Sarkisian said Town was experiencing his fair share of freshman struggles during camp. At one point, the St. Bonaventure (Ventura, California) product had been a verbal commit to Alabama before flipping his commitment shortly after Sarkisian had been hired at USC. “This is a lot of football (to learn) for him”.
During a practice last week, Town threw back-to-back interceptions to a walk-on cornerback in a scrimmage session.
When USC opens the 2016 season in AT&T Stadium against Alabama it will be with former five-star recruit Max Browne under center after waiting patiently behind Kessler as his backup.
“We wish him the best of luck”, Trojans coach Steve Sarkisian said Sunday.
But the story took another turn Sunday. He would have to sit out the fall of 2015 unless he gets a wholly implausible NCAA waiver to compete immediately at another school – though that doesn’t even matter, because there’s zero chance he would step into any program worth its salt as a starter midway through fall practice, anyway.
“He can go anywhere else”, Sarkisian said, which likely means USC will not restrict which schools he talks to before making a decision.
The Trojans will not be effected this season by Town’s departure as they have one of the top quarterbacks in the country in senior Cody Kessler. He’s more athletic than people give him credit for. Needless to say, the only real estate needs he will be worrying about is where to invest the money he has made in his long career.
“I don’t judge anybody for staying, leaving, for anything”, he said. Wittek is going to start for Hawaii this season.
Scout.com’s USC website subsequently confirmed the move.
