Delhi’s new City Taxi Scheme to recognize Ola, Uber
It recently announced on Monday that the Taxi scheme is set to improve itself by offering details of the last mile connectivity as well as providing commuters a more smooth and comfortable rise at a little more cost that would be negligible.
In a big step to dissuade use of private vehicles on the city’s choked roads, the Delhi government on Monday announced the launch of affordable “City Taxis”, with a panic button for women’s safety, and a Goa-style rent-a-motorcycle scheme.
Additionally, the new policy also provides for a range of other taxi services and covers vehicles of over 600 CC capacity, retaining the black and yellow ones. He added that cars like Reva and Nano could be registered under this scheme which is expected to be notified this month.
For smaller taxis, with a capacity between 600 CC to 749 CC, a fare of Rs10 per kilometre has been fixed, with a rate of Rs25 for first two kilometers. In comparison, auto-rickshaws charge Rs 8.50 per kilometre. “The taxis, which will be available though an app, will also address the acute shortage of cabs in the city”, he added.
He said registrations would be made under individual and group category as well as aggregators. While the minimum fleet of taxis mandatory under the group category is 200, the maximum would be 2500. “The hooter too will go off, drawing the attention of passersby”, Rai said.
Understanding the fact that the ban on radio cabs is creating a scarcity in taxi services and eventually resulting in suffering of the general public, the government has proposed to amalgamate the existing schemes for radio taxis with the new scheme. “However, AITP vehicles will not be allowed under this scheme as these are for tourist purposes only and not city transportation”.
According to the new scheme, vehicles having capacity of 600cc onwards can register with the government. The government will charge a licence fees of Rs 5,000 for the vehicles registering under the new category and Rs 25,000 for group category. Taxis under this scheme will come in white colour with provisions of advertisements on both sides. The vehicle will be GPS-enabled and have a LCD display on top in red and green to show availability.
The Delhi government plans to issue licenses for motorcycles to be hired by individuals and tourists. “The bikes will be issued contract carriage permits”, said Rai. Licencee should have minimum five motorcycles and an office space of 150 sqft.
