Red Ferrari Race vehicle Leads RM Sotheby’s Record $67 Million Sale
The collection included eight other Ferraris, as well as examples of essentially all of the most desirable supercars from the late ’70s to today. The 250 LM is supposedly heading back “home” to England, where it will wear its familiar “RON 54” UK registration plates, as it did when it was raced and driven home in period by its first owner, Ronald Fry.
The highest bid was an incredible $17.6 million for a 1964 Ferrari 250 LM.
And a unique cerulean blue 1953 Fiat 8V Supersonic, one of just 15 of its kind built and in the same ownership for more than four decades, achieved $1.8 million. Overall, the auction proved to be a flourishing endeavor with 88 percent of the vehicles that were offered being sold successfully. The characterfully patinated Ferrari 275S/340 America Barchetta made $7.97m.
A 1956 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione “Tour de France” has set a new auction record after selling for $13.2 million at RM Sotheby’s Monterey event.
Please note, all results are inclusive of buyer’s premium, and do not account for all post-auction sales. The top five performing cars were sold for $44m at the auction. The sale had included Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta, which was sold at $38.1m-the highest price for a auto being sold publicly. The vehicle, which was the last Ferrari Enzo produced, was given to Pope John Paul II in 2005.
A well known orange 1998 McLaren F1 sports vehicle that was on display for the public before the auction also fetched $13.8 million, setting a new record for the model.
The 2015 bottom line got a big boost Sunday night when, after the conclusion of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Gooding & Co. held its final auction.
