Schumer Launches Statewide Lottery For Tickets To See Pope Francis
One lucky New York resident will be able to see Pope Francis address Congress when he visits Washington, D.C. next month. So it’s no surprise the tickets have become a hot commodity, with demand far outstripping supply.
“If it were up to me, I would fill up the entire gallery with New Yorkers, but sadly, each senator only received one guest ticket”.
Pope Francis will be the first Pope to ever address a joint meeting of Congress.
Schumer’s office has one guest ticket, and it is being given away by a statewide lottery.
Requests to be entered in the drawing are only being accepted through Senator Schumer’s website, which can be found here.
Schumer says 100 people who enter the lottery will come away with a pair of tickets – and one additional person will win the coveted ticket to see the meeting in Congress. Requests need to be in on the day before, August 26. All of the tickets are free, but the winners have to pay for their own travel and accommodations. One joint meeting ticket victor and 100 winners of a pair of tickets to the papal audience will be notified personally after the drawing.
