Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas sees Manchester City showing slammed by Alan
Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat against Premier League rivals Manchester City was partly down to Cesc Fabregas” lack of “tactical intelligence’.
He went on to say that he believes that normally Fabregas is protected by Matic and Ramires but he didn’t receive that protection during the game at the Etihad. Carragher asked as part of his analysis of the game for Sky Sports.
When these two teams last met, at Stamford Bridge in January, Blues boss Jose Mourinho played Ramires in defensive midfield alongside Nemanja Matic and successfully killed the game. “Because you’ve got someone in Cesc Fabregas who is a fantastic footballer, creates goals scores goals but he can’t defend as we saw in the first ten seconds when Silva turns him and puts Aguero through”.
He wrote in his BBC column: “Fabregas did not look like he knew whether he was meant to be an attacking midfielder or a defensive one”.
‘He lacks tactical intelligence, especially defensively.
However, Chelsea supporters will be encouraged by Fabregas’s Snapchat on Saturday afternoon after he took a photo of Oscar showing off his biceps in the club’s gym.
‘The problems they had down that left side came from Ramires and Fabregas together’.
Terry played every single minute of every Premier League game last season, so for Mourinho to take him off and then reveal it was because he wanted more pace in his back four was a big surprise, although it was understandable why he felt he had to change something at the back.
Six days previous, Jose Mourinho’s side went down 1-0 to Arsenal in the Community Shield, and Fabregas feels that it is time for the title holders to remind the doubters of their quality.
With an opening day 3-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion illustrating the team’s intentions this season, their win against Chelsea this evening may make them the new title favourites already.
