Adelaide Crows Head Coach Phil Walsh murdered
He is expected to have a bedside hearing later today.
The AFL was holding emergency meetings.
“For the AFL to cancel the game on Sunday at a time when players clearly wouldn’t be up for it is the right move and commendable and we congratulate Gil McLachlan and the AFL for doing so”, Marsh said.
“The Port Adelaide family has had a great relationship with Phil Walsh”.
He became Geelong’s strength and conditioning coach in 1995, joined Port Adelaide as an assistant coach four years later and then West Coast in 2009.
On behalf of its players, coaches, staff, members and supporters, the club’s thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Walsh’s loved ones.
Fremantle chief executive Steve Rosich said the club understood and supported the revised game-day events across the country.

55-year-old Walsh had suffered serious injuries and died at the scene despite treatment from ambulance crews.
Walsh’s wife, Meredith, was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, reportedly a leg wound.
A handy wingman, it was as an old-school coach – “a hard man, a hard taskmaster”, Adelaide legend Graham Cornes said – that Walsh left his biggest imprint on the game.
A knife used in the attack was found at the house, where the son lived with his parents.
“We touched base with players from all teams to get a sense of it and the absolute right decision has been made”, Marsh said. Bray said.
Walsh’s murder is the second high-profile tragedy in Australian sport in the past year, following the death last November of Test cricketer Phillip Hughes. “The pain and suffering of the family is no different”.
He took over as Adelaide coach after Brenton Sanderson’s sacking.
“The premiership points will be split between the two clubs, as per the AFL rules”. He was the inaugural best and fairest victor for the Bears in 1987, but as a player he was best remembered for walking out of Collingwood at the end of 1983 after an outstanding debut season playing on the wing. He’s been at West Coast, he’s been at half the AFL clubs.
“The sorrow and stress felt today touches many in our industry as Phil Walsh gave a lot to our game”.
Politicians and sporting figures from the many clubs he was involved with expressed their shock and grief at the killing. “It doesn’t matter who you support, today”. “This is an extraordinary bit of news”. This is without precedent.
“There are many things that will have to play out over the next 24 hours in football”.
His experiences are all documented on extensive personal websites, which have since been deleted, where he describes exploring the world to experiment with fasting, detox, and alternative medicine to battle a “life crisis”.

In an April interview, Walsh admitted that his career had affected his family life, saying that he was trying to “reconnect” with his son. “To my son, I had a disconnect because of footy”, he said.
Walsh’s death has shocked Adelaide and the AFL.
He had yet to complete his first year as head coach at the Crows.
The Crows are sitting seventh on the table and were set to play Geelong on Sunday.
Geelong star Tom Hawkins said the news was shocking.
