Cops Stop Speeder, Deliver Baby
The department says Officer Anthony Reynolds pulled over the auto after he saw it speeding and running red lights in South Seattle at about 3:45 a.m. Sunday.
Reynolds hit his lights and stopped the vehicle at MLK and Graham Street.
As it turns out, the driver was rushing to bring his wife to the hospital as she was in labor, according to Seattle Police Blotter, the department’s official blog.
Officers called an ambulance, but the baby beat the medics to the scene. Officers helped deliver the child, which was born not long after the traffic stop.
The mother, who has not been identified, can be heard on Reynolds’ dashcam video screaming in pain. With the help of the child’s mother, one of the officers cleared the baby’s airways and got the baby breathing again. As the ambulance leaves, video shows the relieved father hugging Reynolds and his fellow officer.
“That baby wasn’t having any of it and wanted to make an early appearance so our officers certainly earned their pay today”, police spokesperson Sgt.
Medics transported the woman and her healthy baby to the hospital.
“You helped deliver a precious gift”, the couple wrote in a thank you note to officers. “We are so grateful”, according to police.
