Pakistan MQM’s lawmaker shot at in Karachi attack, driver killed
Talking exclusively to Dunya News before leaving for Karachi, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Monday stated that he is hundred percent hopeful that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) parliamentarians will return to the assemblies. After the talks, Rehman said the discussions would continue and that he had received a “positive response” from MQM.
Meanwhile, MQM workers are praying for Godil’s health at the party headquarters.
The party has been at the center of controversy after party chief Altaf Hussein, who lives in exile in London but still delivers fiery speeches by phone, accused the military of targeting his party.
Godil was rushed to a local hospital where his condition is said to be critical, hospital sources said.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif issued a statement condemning the assault and saying he was praying for Godil’s recovery.
Both leaders had agreed to begin a process of dialogue to thrash out a solution to the crisis that has resulted in light of MQM lawmakers’ resignations.
The shooting comes a week after members of the MQM, which dominates politics in Karachi, offered their resignations from their seats in parliament over what they described as a campaign of victimisation against them.
Maulana Fazl reached 90 with his delegation around 12 pm, MQM delegation includes Farooq Sattar, Wasim akhter, Kanwer Naveed, Sardar Ahmed, Nasreen Jalil and Shabbeer Qaimkhani. He has also persuaded the federal government to set up a monitoring committee to keep tabs on the Karachi operation. The party claims its workers are being illegally detained and killed under the garb of Karachi’s security operation.
