Activision details Skylanders Battlecast free-to-play mobile card game
Hope you’re not fed up with the Skylanders series yet, because Activision has revealed that the series is jumping into the card battling market with its upcoming title, Skylanders BattleCast.
Skylanders: Battlecast is a free-to-play mobile game that uses both store-bought physical cards and in-game virtual ones. Keeping with the Skylanders tradition of physical objects interacting with the virtual game, players can place their cards in front of their mobile device’s camera lens and watch the Skylanders character on it become animated within the game, as shown in the trailer below.
Skylanders Battlecast can be played on a tablet or other mobile device. It’s insane how much Skylanders has grown since its noble beginnings as a Spyro spinoff in 2011.
Players will create a team of heroes for their deck and use card combinations to best their opponent, like a typical card battling game. Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg claims this is the company’s “biggest investment” for Skylanders on mobile. You’ll be able to scan the cards and watch them come to life in Battlecast. “With Skylanders Battlecast, fans can expect the unbelievable creativity, innovation and fun that Skylanders games are known for delivering”. Meanwhile, on September 20, Activision is launching Skylanders SuperChargers in North America on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, and iOS.
