Batman impersonator who visited sick kids dies in crash
Minutes before his death, Robinson stopped as a gas station about 10:30 p.m. and talked with a family whose children were fascinated with the black Lamborghini he fashioned into the Batmobile, police said.
After running into some engine problems, Robinson pulled over on an unlit stretch of Interstate 70 near Hagerstown, Maryland according to police. As he did, a Toyota Camry struck his auto propelling the Batmobile into Robinson and killing him. No charges have been filed against the Camry driver.
In order to achieve this, Robinson spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on a custom-made “batsuit”, and on altering his Lamborghini to look like the Batmobile.
Robinson’s Batman persona went viral several years back when he made headlines for driving his Batmobile in full Bat wardrobe and getting pulled over for not having proper motor vehicle tags.
“To see these children, the smiles that come onto their faces – it was like a miracle for these children”, Larry Robinson said. “That’s all he wanted to do”.
OWINGS MILLS, MD March 27: Leonard Robinson is known as batman to children in area hospitals where he visits and hands out batman hats, shirts, backpacks and other things to brighten their days.
Lenny B. Robinson also led superhero parties thrown in hospitals by Washington, DC organization Hope for Henry Foundation.
Robinson, who lived in Maryland and was a father of three boys, worked in the cleaning business before buying an elaborate Batman costume and auto, The Post reported. When I asked him to do anything, he always said yes… He wasn’t wearing the Batman suit because he was insane, or because he was an actual superhero-though many saw him as such.
Lenny Robinson was a hero, even without the costume in his local town.
Every now and then, we get the opportunity to bring you a story of someone who is inspired by comic books to do something good in their community, and Lenny Robinson was one of those people.
