Indians cool off Red Sox, rough up Barnes
Frustration at Hanley Ramirez and his abysmal defense in left field for the Boston Red Sox is boiling over. Farrell was a pregame visitor here again Monday, and was still hanging around his office after the game Monday night.
The Red Sox recalled Matt Barnes from Triple-A Pawtucket to start their game Monday against the Cleveland Indians.
The Bethel native has a 3-2 record with the Red Sox this season, racking up 22 strikeouts. The Tribe rebounded from back-to-back poor performances in losses at Minnesota (combined two runs and 10 hits). “It was impressive”. De Aza would be inserted into an already crowded outfield, with Joc Pederson, Andre Ethier, and Yasiel Puig starting most games while Carl Crawford has been heating up off the bench. “I guess they listen to him because he’s been with the team for so long and he’s the face of the team, but at the same time it is the GM’s and owners’ call”. “He’s a very special player”. The 25-year-old right-hander held the Indians hitless for the first 3 1-3 innings. I thought I had really good command of all three pitches.. The fastball, when it missed, was around the zone.
“I felt really good out there”, he said.
The Indians are 34-51 when they allow at least one home run. Bauer went 3.1 innings, surrendering six runs, striking out one and walking two in an 8-6 defeat to the Yankees in his last outing. Things were going well until the Indians rallied for five runs in the fourth inning. With two on, Abraham Almonte drag bunted past the pitcher to score a run.
Former Red Sox third baseman Mike Aviles then singled to left, scoring Chisenhall and pushing the Indians lead to 5-1. Brantley tried to keep the positive vibes flowing by stealing 2nd himself, but after doing so Carlos Santana would strike out to end the inning. No one was injured and Ramirez instructed security to give another bat to the fan that caught it.
