Indians cool off Red Sox, rough up Barnes
Frustration at Hanley Ramirez and his abysmal defense in left field for the Boston Red Sox is boiling over. Farrell was a pregame visitor here again Monday, and was still hanging around his office after the game Monday night.
The Red Sox recalled Matt Barnes from Triple-A Pawtucket to start their game Monday against the Cleveland Indians.
The Bethel native has a 3-2 record with the Red Sox this season, racking up 22 strikeouts. The Tribe rebounded from back-to-back poor performances in losses at Minnesota (combined two runs and 10 hits). “It was impressive”. Things were going well until the Indians rallied for five runs in the fourth inning. With two on, Abraham Almonte drag bunted past the pitcher to score a run.
Former Red Sox third baseman Mike Aviles then singled to left, scoring Chisenhall and pushing the Indians lead to 5-1. Brantley tried to keep the positive vibes flowing by stealing 2nd himself, but after doing so Carlos Santana would strike out to end the inning. No one was injured and Ramirez instructed security to give another bat to the fan that caught it.
