Buhari Approves Voluntary Retirement Of Customs CG

President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted the resignation of the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs, Abdullahi Dikko.

In his resignation letter, Abdullahi said he had spent six years in service and would like to give way for others. He had also thanked him for the confidence and trust reposed on him since he (Buhari) was inaugurated on May 29, adding that by August 18th he would have served for six years.

Unconfirmed report stated that this move could be connected to investigation of top-shots in the Customs service on allegation of corruption.

The president is yet to announce a successor.

“The Comptroller General has a vision to build it to a world class structure that will meet the healthcare of the service because he believes only healthy and fit officers and men can drive the vision of Nigeria Customs”.

But it appears Alhaji Abdullahi Inde Dikko, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs, who is reported to have put in his letter of retirement, would need the grace of God to enjoy all these, as a group is calling for his probe.

Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, yesterday, commissioned the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) state-of-the-art hospital located at the Customs barracks, Karu, Abuja, describing it as the best equipped in Nigeria.

“Well, I feel highly honoured for once and I’m grateful to President Muhammadu Buhari and I want to actually acknowledge and appreciate the honour done to me“.

With the acceptance, Abdullahi is expected to proceed on his voluntary retirement from Tuesday, August 18.

His replacement has not been named.

According to Abudallihi’s request letter, obtained by our correspondent, the agenda had positively impacted on the efficiency and performance of officers of the service and had drastically changed the negative perception of the service.

Recalling that on assumption of office, he had a articulated six-point agenda which he vigorously pursued.

Abdullahi said customs, which was generating a monthly revenue of N29 billion when he came on board, now realises between N90 billion and N100 billion on a monthly basis.
