Starbucks announces the use of real pumpkin in fall beverages
The revamped drink will include espresso, milk, pumpkin spice flavored sauce, whipped cream, vanilla syrup and pumpkin spice topping, according to Starbucks.
When Starbucks releases its limited-time Pumpkin Spice Latte this fall, it will come with real pumpkin and without a caramel coloring. Last week, Pecan Pie M&Ms were spotted and today (Monday, Aug. 17), Starbucks announced that it’s improving their autumnal concoction, the Pumpkin Spice Latte.
So it’s disappointing that Starbucks is adding pumpkin to its PSL to appease an influential but misguided kook. You can use #PSL to caption a picture of your coffee cup at a pumpkin patch without worrying that you are a total pumpkin fraud. The coffee company has sold more than 200 million pumpkin spice lattes since it launched the autumn essential in 2003. Perhaps surprisingly, it turned out that the PSL’s lack of real pumpkin really wasn’t a major sticking point for the Food Babe.
But still a little bit disturbing that the latte is churned out from ingredients which have names such as, Caramel Color Level IV and Citric Acid all a bunch of chemicals. Panera’s version of the popular fall beverage will be available starting Sept. 9.
“After reading the ingredients in the Pumpkin Spice Latte, I can tell you that there’s absolutely no pumpkin”, wrote Hari.
Starbucks isn’t the only company touting a cleaner pumpkin latte.
Panera plans to offer samples Tuesday in Seattle, where Starbucks is headquartered. The brand will be removing caramel coloring after several complaints from customers.
