Flash flood advisory posted for county
At 3:22 p.m., the flash flood warning was cancelled for Oahu.
An extremely moist and unstable atmosphere over the islands will support the development of slow-moving heavy downpours that could lead to flash flooding.
The Flood Advisory encompasses the entire island, including areas like Hawi, Kapaau, Waikoloa, Kawaihae, and Waimea. This activity is expected to continue through the afternoon.
Other heavy showers are impacting the area from Hāna to ʻUlupalakua with additional showers expected between Kīhei and Wailea.
In addition to the Flood Advisory, there is also a Flood Watch in effect for all islands through tonight.
The watch is in effect from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. Streams are still running high.
The advisory has been canceled for the Big Island, Kauai and Lanai.
A flood advisory may be upgraded to a flash flood warning if flooding worsens and poses a threat to life and property and may need to be extended if heavy rain persists.
A stronger system looks to move in on Thursday which will bring a greater chance of possible flooding, even flash flooding, and is something to be watched. Flash flooding is very unsafe.
A flood advisory is posted for Lāna’i until 4:45 p.m.
On Monday, similar weather conditions combined to produce heavy showers for Hawaii island, causing flooding that stranded motorists and prompted officials to close roads and evacuate an apartment complex in Kawaihae.
