Seahawks release former Green Beret Nate Boyer
To clear space on the roster, Seattle released longsnapper Nate Boyer, the former Green Beret that is attempting to catch on with an NFL team. The Seattle Seahawks later confirmed the moves on Tuesday. Seahawks released Nate Boyer, needing roster spot to replace an injured player. All five of his snaps in the game were accurate and Boyer thanked the team for the opportunity afterward, saying it was an emotional moment that had significance to the servicemen and servicewomen he fought alongside. Backup long snapper, regardless of back story, is always most expendable.
Glazer also said he was “given an emphatic yes” when he asked if Boyer has the ability to play in the NFL, but the business of football provided a hiccup in Boyer’s quest to play in an NFL game.
“That was cool”, Boyer said, according to the Seahawks’ official website.
Boyer spent six years in the military and did multiple tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq before earning an honorable discharge in 2009. “I enjoyed it. You never know, this might be the only one I get”.
With the addition of Waters, the Seahawks now have a third healthy quarterback behind Russell Wilson and R.J. Archer.
The team is expected to add former Kansas State quarterback Jake Waters to it’s 90-man offseason roster on Tuesday. The 23-year-old QB Waters tried out with the Seahawks earlier this month.
Waters was a two-year starter at Kansas State, where he set a school record for passing yards with 3,501 and 31 touchdowns.
Boyer was signed in May immediately after the NFL draft.
