Shonda Rhimes: It wasn’t easy killing off Dr McDreamy in Grey’s Anatomy
“Meredith and Derek’s love had to remain Meredith and Derek’s love”, Rhimes continued.
As actress Ellen Pompeo stated at the TCAs yesterday, for the first time in twelve years, Meredith Grey is single and unattached. However, Rhimes revealed that the new character, played by Martin Henderson, will be playing the love interest of Meredith. Rhimes said. “That was going to suggest that their love was not true – that the thing we said for 11 years was a lie and McDreamy wasn’t McDreamy and that was untenable”.
Asked specifically how Derek’s death will change Meredith now that she isn’t partially “defined by a man”, Rhimes noted that “Meredith Grey has never been defined by her relationship with a man”.
ELLEN Pompeo has defended Shonda Rhimes’ controversial decision to kill off Derek Shepard, aka McDreamy, from Grey’s Anatomy. And she’s living in a house with her sisters and there’s a lot of single women in the show right now, and so she’s surrounded by women who are dating and having a whole life and she’s not really interested in any of that.
During ABC’s Television Critics Association press tour party at the Beverly Hilton on 5 August, the 45-year-old told TV Line’s Michael Ausiello that Heigl’s character Izzie Stevens will not be back at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
“So many individuals lose their spouses in a myriad of various methods and really feel they can not rise up once more and to inform the story of how life goes on after… that is a narrative value telling”.
Do you think Meredith Grey should move on?
“It was great, wasn’t it?” he said of the demise of Dempsey’s character, which dramatically shook up the Season 11 storyline and the hearts of fans. Chandra Wilson has already promised Zap2it that at the very least fans will see the return of “Classic Bailey.”
Grey’s will have a lighter tone this year as the season’s theme is rebirth.
Well, the actress, who will be entering her twelfth season on the series this fall, elaborated during an interview with Us Weekly what exactly fans of the long-running series could anticipate from the premiere episode, “Sledgehammer”, which is slated to air Thursday, September 24.
