Mets place Bobby Parnell on disabled list with shoulder tendinitis
Starter/reliever Logan Verrett has been promoted from Class AAA Las Vegas for Tuesday night’s game against the Orioles at Camden Yards.
New York Mets veteran reliever Bobby Parnell is headed to the disabled list after struggling over the weekend and suffering two losses to the Pirates.
Parnell gave up four earned runs over two-thirds of an inning this past weekend. He made an appearance on Opening Day 2014, but immediately after was diagnosed with a torn UCL and had Tommy John surgery in April 2014.
Parnell is an impending free agent making $3.7 million, so unless he makes it back from the DL for some September action this likely signals the end of his time with the Mets after a decade in the organization. While he used to blow pitches by hitters at 97-98 miles per hour, Parnell has been topping out at 94 miles an hour lately.
Parnell finally returned to the Mets on June 13, but has pitched to a 5.59 ERA in 23 appearances, spanning 19 1/3 innings.
Verrett, 25, has 12 strikeouts and one save in 12.1 innings with the Mets this season.
