Flight of the Conchords movie in the works
The Flight of the Concords comedian told the Seattle Times that he and co-star Bret McKenzie decided to start a band after being rejected by New Zealand television producers.
Jermaine Clement revealed in a series of recent interviews the pair had begun writing the movie, adding the comedy twosome were also plotting a reunion tour for next year.
Jemaine Clement has recalled how he and Bret McKenzie decided to start the Flight of the Conchords after realising New Zealand’s TV networks had no interest in making comedy.
The sequel will apparently revolve around Rhys Darby’s clan of neurotic werewolves this time – who made an unforgettable impressions first time around.
“We were planning on doing it this summer, but then I ended up doing The BFG instead”, Clement explained, referencing his role in Steven Spielberg’s forthcoming adaptation of Rolad Dahl’s Big Friendly Giant.
His partner, Jemaine Clement, confirmed this yesterday, saying that details of the tour should be announced by the end of the year. Written and directed by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, the comedy debuted at Sundance last year to positive notices and is essentially a mockumentary about a group of centuries-old vampires living their lives in Wellington, New Zealand.
Clement and McKenzie, however, are keen to point out that the film is still very much in the early stages. But there’s still a lot to mine from Anton and his werewolf pack, especially after the events of the What We Do in the Shadows climax. But we are hoping to announce a tour.
