Whose first pitch was better: Jordan Spieth or Zach Johnson? Vote here
Iowa native and two-time major champion Zach Johnson threw out the first pitch before the Chicago Cubs’ game against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday.
The two agreed that whoever had the worst pitch had to donate $5,000 to charity.
As if we’d expect anything else from the men who nabbed three of the four majors this year, both Jordan Spieth and Zach Johnson brought the heat on their first pitches tonight. As long as you don’t bounce it I think it’s a success.
Jordan Spieth plays a shot out of a bunker near the third green during the final round of the World Golf Championships – Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club South Course on August 9, 2015 in Akron, Ohio.
Speaking before his pitch at Wrigley Field, Johnson said he was more nervous about leading the crowd in the singing of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh-inning stretch.
Spieth was eager to make up for a lackluster first pitch before a Texas game in May 2013.
They didn’t specify 95 on what scale, but if that’s 95 miles per hour from Johnson then Spieth throws harder than Aroldis Chapman.
“I used to come a while back and my dad and I would sneak down as the game wore on to better and better seats”, said Spieth, who watched Tuesday’s game from the front row near the Rangers’ owners seats. “It was caught in the light, I was looking for it like that”, Spieth said, squinting. Unfortunately for him, just like in golf this year, Spieth’s first pitch is just a wee bit better than what Johnson threw. I mean I’m a happy camper.
