Johnny Depp joined a cadre of heavy metal heroes including Gene Simmons, former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke and Mr. Big drummer Matt Starr at a recent charity concert for performances of two Kiss classics, “Deuce” and “Rock and Roll All Nite”. Tickets for the exclusive event weren’t easy to come by – they cost $150 each – but the high prices raised money for a good cause: MendingKids.org, which funds corrective surgeries for children whose families can’t afford them.
The concert also boasted a reunion of Eighties rock outfit Extreme, with Gary Cherone and Nuno Bettencourt performing their hit, “More Than Words”, per an Associated Press report of the gig.
After multiple band members jammed together throughout the night, Depp gave the crowd a special taste of what his supergroup Hollywood Vampires will sound like, with a cover of Alice Cooper’s “School’s Out”.
His hair slicked back, Depp wore jeans and an oxford shirt topped with a gray vest. He performed a white electrical guitar.
“Mending Kids is not only changing the lives of these kids, but making a difference in developing countries that are in need of medical care”.
Simmons was the last to take the stage. A supporter of MendingKids.org for a number of years, the sixty five-yr-previous entertainer invited anybody with $ 1,000 to donate to the group to return up and sing with the band.
Simmons, 65, told Billboard he had never played with Depp before and the show was all improvised.
