Alex Morgan, Christine Sinclair rip NWSL for hotel accommodations
The NWSL leaves it up to home teams to set up accommodations for visiting teams, though league rules do require host hotels to have at least three-star ratings.
In a tweet on Monday, Morgan directly called out the NWSL by adding their handle and saying, “there’s no other way to address continuing problems”.
The Thorns stayed at the Adam’s Mark Hotel in Kansas City last week ahead of their game against FC Kansas City and both Sinclair and Morgan complained on Twitter that the hotel had bed bugs.
Providence Park will host the nationally-televised National Women’s Soccer League championship Oct. 1, it was officially announced this week. The hotel apologized, quickly provided a new room, and insisted the problem had been corrected. For the remainder of the season, rooms have already been secured at another hotel.
As For The Win notes, the league’s operations manual indicates that home teams must provide away teams with rooms at a 3-star hotel. The Adam’s Mark Hotel & Conference Center is listed as a three-star establishment. We regret the situation and apologize to the player involved.
Christine Sinclair tweeted out a warning to the entire NWSL. Of course, the $265,000 cap doesn’t include players who fall into allocation, but it does show the financial constraints in getting a women’s professional soccer league off the ground on the third try.
Based in Chicago, the NWSL is supported by the Canadian Soccer Association, Federation of Mexican Football and the United States Soccer Federation. Tickets will be held for fans of both participating teams and will be made available in a special sales window once the teams are set.
