Home owner charged in home invasion
A homeowner is being charged with voluntary manslaughter for chasing and killing a man who attempted to break into his home.
According to a release from Akron police, David Hillis, 21, of Hilbish Avenue, was arraigned Monday morning in Akron Municipal Court and then booked into Summit County Jail.
Prosecutors say Tart is charged with aggravated burglary for the break-in and murder for having helped cause Glover’s death.
Officers say Glover and Tart broke into this home on August 7 before fleeing when Hillis grabbed a handgun. Hillis fired shots and killed Glover as he ran away. The burglars held him at gunpoint but Hillis pulled out his own gun and the criminals fled.
When police arrived they found Glover’s body two houses along from Hillis’s property, while Tart escaped into a nearby wooded area but was later caught.
Tart has a history of armed robberies.
The claim of self-defense may have been made baseless once Hillis began chasing the suspect.
