Joel Embiid to have surgery on Tuesday
A stress fracture in the navicular bone of his right foot kept Embiid out for all of last season as well.
Center Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers will have a second surgery on his right foot on Tuesday and is expected to miss his second consecutive season, Yahoo Sports reported on Saturday.
Embiid’s surgery will be similar to the one Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant had, per Spears. The team announced on July 11 that Embiid would miss his second straight season due to the setback.
It was never in doubt that Embiid would receive surgery on his foot, so any delays were likely logistical and a non-factor for fantasy purposes. Tuesday’s surgery will be the first step on the long road back to the court. Now, he’ll have to wait at least another year before playing in an National Basketball Association game.
The center’s last competitive action came in the 2013-14 college season with the University of Kansas.
Bleacher Report said that the Sixers are “concerned” that Embiid’s latest re-broken bone could be “career-threatening”, and so there are plenty of rumors that he may actually be waived by Philadelphia next season. They also have two blossoming centers, Nerlens Noel and Henry Sims, who are reportedly doing well in the team’s planned rebuilding.
