Bellefontaine mother confesses to killing her three sons
A woman calmly called the emergency dispatcher to report her baby son wasn’t breathing yesterday (Aug 18) and then hours later confessed to killing him and her two other young sons over the past several months because her husband ignored their daughter, authorities said.
Now Brittany Pilkington, 23, is being held in the Logan County Jail on three counts of murder, according to the Associated Press.
Logan County Prosecutor William Goslee said Pilkington confessed that she killed the boys by putting a blanket over their head and suffocating them. No attorney information was available for her.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting local authorities.
Pilkington called 911 early Tuesday morning to report her 3-month-old son Noah Pilkington was not breathing.
Officers and Bellefontaine squad personnel arrived and tried to revive the child at the apartment before he was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital and declared dead.
Police say the father was the one who discovered the children in each case, but is not responsible for their deaths and is not facing any charges. Police have accused her of killing three-month-old Noah Pilkington on Tuesday; 4-year-old Gavin Pilkington in April and three-month-old Niall in July 2014.
Police and the Logan County coroner’s office already were investigating the death of Gavin, who was found dead by his father, Joseph, in April. Hes turning white.. She eventually told detectives that she killed all three boys, police said, but no other details of officers’ discussions with her were released.
The tragic deaths of Niall, Gavin and Noah leave a pit in our stomachs today, police Chief Brandon K. Standley said in a statement. “Our condolences go out to the remaining family members who have supported this family through a very difficult 13 months”.
Investigators said that Noah and their daughter were in protective custody of the state until last week and had just returned home. Skaggs, standing in front of his niece’s apartment, told the Dispatch.
Four-year-old Gavin, died on April 6, 2015. He remembered consoling a distraught Joseph Pilkington but finding Brittany Pilkington unperturbed.
“She walked around like nothing had happened”, McKee said.
