Delhi is the rape capital of India: NCRB study
Crime against women across the country increased by around 10 per cent last year as compared to previous year with total 3,37,922 cases registered in 2014 against 3,09,546 cases in 2013, according to the National Crime Records Bureau’s latest report, which was released on Tuesday.
In what should come as rude shock to members of the police establishment admittedly “used to ignoring” gorily-headlined news reports triggered by the violent nature of daily crime, the Capital’s criminals seem to have become both doubly violent and exhibited higher propensity to use enormous violence in the commission of acts o… The statistics show that the percentage of crimes committed by minors is 1.2 percent of the total cognisable crimes. Apart from this, 115 sexual harassment, 35 cases of stalking by men who outraged they’re modesty and 12 cases of voyeurism were reported within a year.
According to the statistics, among the four metros, Kolkata is the safest city as far as number of rape cases are concerned, with 36 cases reported.
New Delhi:In major embarrassment for Delhi, the national capital has been officially named the rape capital of India.
While the share of reported rape cases in which the offender was known to the victim remained significantly high at 86 per cent, shockingly, in Himachal Pradesh, this figure is 100 percent, while in Odisha, it is 99.9 percent.
As per the National Crime Record Bureau data, there were 15265 incidents of crime committed against women during 2014 in Delhi alone which is 4.5 per cent of crimes against women across the country.
Almost all of India’s custodial rape – 189 of 197 instances – was reported in Uttar Pradesh. West Bengal registered 9,335 cases of sexual offences, which include rape, attempt to rape and molestation.
