Black Caps prepared for South Africa ODI series
New Zealand are without captain Brendon McCullum and paceman Tim Southee, who have been rested.
AB de Villiers-led South Africa will look to fight a sense of painful deja vu and erase the scars of two recent wounds when they host New Zealand in the first of the three-match ODI series in Supersport Park, Centurion on Wednesday.

Teasdale posted an image of the document with a cheeky message: “Something tells me I was not supposed to get the South African cricket team’s plan/strategy to the New Zealand team batsman and bowlers under my hotel room door…”
All-rounder Grant Elliott, who was the hero during the previous One-Day international between the two sides that happened to be the World Cup semi-final, is said to have no scoring options against short balls while yorkers are likely to keep him quiet in the death overs.
New Zealand fielded the same team that won the second Twenty20 international at the same venue on Sunday.
“We dealt with Morne Morkel pretty well in that first game and Dale (Steyn), if the ball swings, will be challenging”.
Applying pressure has been the key to New Zealand’s past successes against the Proteas in the limited overs formats. The Proteas might be intently monitoring Faf du Plessis’ health because the T20 captain is probably going to miss at the very least the primary ODI.
Adding to the uncertainty over the batting is the fact that who the next batsman in line is is clouded by the SA A team being in India. Cricket South Africa chief executive Haroon Lorgat, meanwhile, said the experiment of playing matches in August had been successful so far, with near-capacity crowds attending the T20 matches.
Opener Martin Guptill and skipper Kane Williamson have been in form with Guptill “back to his best” in the eyes of Hesson. South Africa suffered a heartbreak in the World Cup semifinal at the hands of the Kiwis and then endured a ODI series defeat in Bangladesh.
The Black Caps won the last ODI series in South Africa 2-1 in 2013.
