Heyward taken out due to tight left hamstring
St. Louis Cardinals’ Randal Grichuk, left, scores on a wild pitch as Arizona Diamondbacks’ Wade Miley, right, applies a late tag during the third inning of a baseball game Saturday, September 27, 2014, in Phoenix.
The Cardinals called up Tommy Pham Monday to replace Grichuk, and Pham played the last seven innings.
Yet another chapter has been written in the injury-riddled saga that has plagued the 2015 St. Louis Cardinals. The Cards’ outfield is suffering right now, as they just lost Randal Grichuk to the DL.
Heyward was coming off a two-homer game against the Marlins Sunday, and there wasn’t any indication he was tight before Monday’s game. Since the All-Star break, his eight home runs are T4th among all National League hitters with a. 612 slugging pct. that ranks 11. “Short term, this was in his best interest to let it quiet down, and then hopefully this isn’t a long stint”. The homers were his first since June 24.
“I made three or four more throws in the game and it kept pulling and pulling and pulling”, Grichuk said. It also meant that Peralta had to hit in the eighth inning instead of being available in the ninth to bat for light-hitting shortstop Pete Kozma or the pitcher’s spot.
