4-star QB signee Ricky Town transferring from USC
There are many reasons why a player would choose to leave a school under these circumstances, and even more so when a quarterback is involved.
Town finished high school early and enrolled at USC last January as part of the Trojans’ 2015 recruiting class. He was a verbal commit at Alabama before switching over to USC. However, his transmit could afford an impact on USC’s strength and sponsoring in a day or two, and he/she likely effect another major plan irrespective of where he park.
But after working months in Southern California, it may seem Town experienced a tough time correct straight into the…
The Trojans will not be effected this season by Town’s departure as they have one of the top quarterbacks in the country in senior Cody Kessler. A 4-star quarterback prospect out of Ventura, Calif., just down the road from USC, Town was the sixth ranked pro-style quarterback in the 2015 class, according to 247Sports.
The decision by Ricky Town to transfer from USC shouldn’t come as a complete surprise. Yahoo!’s Charles Robinson and Huffington Post sports columnist (those exist, apparently!) Jordan Schultz each tweeted that Town’s pre-existing relationship with Doug Nussmeier could lead him to joining the Gators.
Town would have had an opportunity to compete to be Browne’s backup with fellow true freshman Sam Darnold, but with Darnold one of the fastest rising recruits in the 2015 class and faring well in fall camp, Town’s chances of playing time dwindled. However, without Town on the roster, Browne will not have much competition for the starting job and the depth at the position takes a hit as well. Previously, redshirt freshman Jalen Greene was listed as the third quarterback on the roster but he recently made the switch to wide receiver and has strived at his new position.
Looking forward, the Trojans do have a commitment from 2016 four-star quarterback Matt Fink from Glendora.
By transferring now, Town can immediately redshirt this season, making him eligible to play in 2016.
