VIDEO Watch a clip from the new Lion King movie
We cannot wait until The Lion Guard premieres on Disney Channel and Disney Junior in November. Now, the network has unveiled an extended look at the upcoming television movie, which features some familiar voices and a little motto fans may remember for the rest of their days – “hakuna matata” is back, everybody.
Rob Lowe – of “St. Elmo’s Fire”, the “Austin Powers” franchise, “The West Wing” and “Parks and Recreation” – will take over from Matthew Broderick as Simba, while “Bad Boys II” actress Gabrielle Union voices Nala. Watch Kion and his buddy, Bunga the honey badger, bop around the Pride Lands until they run into some young hyenas in the Outlands (uh oh).
Kion leads The Lion Guard, traditionally comprised of the bravest, strongest and fastest animals of the Pride Lands.
Airing in November, ahead of the debut of a new animated series in January, “The Lion Guard” follows the adventures of Kion, son of Simba from the 1994 classic “The Lion King“.
The video introduces a few of Kion’s new friends, including egret Ono (Atticus Shaffer), cheetah Fuli (Diamond White) and hippo Beshte (Dusan Brown). It’s even got Ernie Sabella and James Earl Jones returning to reprise their roles of Pumbaa and Mufasa, respectively.
