Man taken into custody after shots fired at NC church
Deputies responded to a call of shots fired at a church in Haywood County, according to WHNS.
Authorities have arrested a man after there was an exchange of gunfire and a shots fired call at a church in a western NC county, WSPA-TV reports.
The pastor of the church tells FOX Carolina that the suspected shooter was not a church member. His intentions are unknown.
The Haywood County Sheriff’s Office said they received calls at about 3:15 p.m. about shots fired at Maple Grove Baptist Church on Stamey Cove Road in Waynesville Wednesday. No law enforcement officer was injured.
The man’s identity is not known at this time.
Police said there were no injuries to law enforcement, but the gunman was treated by emergency medical services. No officers have been hurt, but the condition of the man – who was reportedly injured – was unclear.
The State Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate, the sheriff’s office said.
